Labor and management representatives continued negotiations on July 2 over next year’s minimum wage. The Minimum Wage Commission, composed of 27 members—nine each for labor, management and public interest—held its 11th plenary session at 3 p.m. in the Sejong Government Complex.
At the previous meeting on June 30, labor members submitted a second revised proposal of 11,900 won per hour, marking a 100-won reduction from their original demand. Management members countered with an offer of 10,360 won per hour, 40 won higher than their initial figure. Despite these shifts, the two sides remain 1,540 won apart.
Both camps are expected to present further adjustments as they seek to bridge the gap. If their proposals fail to converge, the public interest commissioners may set a “deliberation promotion interval,” defining upper and lower wage limits to guide the parties toward either an agreement or a formal vote.
