Comedian Park Semi and trot singer Kim So-yu have teamed up for their first duet, “Mundeul Mothagesseoyo,” showcasing a surprisingly harmonious collaboration despite coming from different entertainment fields. The pair met recently at the TenAsia building in Jungnim-dong, Seoul, to mark the single’s release and reflect on their creative process.
Their partnership dates back to February last year, when both appeared on MBN’s “Korea–Japan Top Ten Show.” After performing the hit “Jjiniya,” viewers and fellow artists alike noted how closely their appearances and voices mirrored each other. Kim So-yu recalled playing the new recording for her parents and noted wryly that, even after decades of listening to her daughter sing, they failed to recognize her own voice on the track.
Despite expectations that differing backgrounds might lead to disagreements during production, Park and Kim report a seamless working relationship. “We shot reels and filmed the music video, holding countless meetings, but we never once found ourselves at odds,” Park Semi said, adding that she secretly wished for at least a minor spat to create a fun behind-the-scenes story.
Park credited Kim’s consistently deferential attitude: “She always asked whether I preferred pink or black outfits, let me choose the comfiest seat in her car, and never insisted on anything for herself.” Kim So-yu explained that accommodating others comes naturally to her—“I don’t calculate favors; perhaps it’s because I’m the eldest child”—and that she simply moves quickly to ask first.
In turn, Kim praised Park’s experience in broadcasting and on-camera work. “Whenever I hesitated, she filled in my introduction and even ad-libbed perfect lines I hadn’t thought of,” Kim said. Park responded warmly, describing Kim as “like a real younger sister—working together feels like sending a loved one out into the world.”
Labeling each other “soul mates,” the duo held a friendly partner evaluation: Kim awarded Park a perfect 100 points, while Park gave Kim 92, reserving the remaining eight points for Kim’s first live performance of the song. “Once she takes the stage, I’ll be able to judge those last points,” Park explained.
“Mundeul Mothagesseoyo” blends Park Semi’s bright comedic energy with Kim So-yu’s stable, traditional-music-inflected vocals. The song’s catchy chorus and witty lyrics convey a playful determination to tackle anything life throws their way, inviting listeners to sing along with ease.
