A man in his 30s has been sentenced to seven years in prison in the first trial over a violent break-in at the home of singer and actress Nana. The case drew public attention not only because of the victim’s celebrity status, but also because the court addressed the issue of self-defense after Nana and her mother fought back during the intrusion.
Nana Home Intruder Gets Seven-Year Prison Term
A man identified by the surname Kim was handed a seven-year prison sentence after being convicted in connection with a break-in at Nana’s residence in Acheon-dong, Guri, Gyeonggi Province. According to the case details, Kim entered the home at around 6 a.m. on November 15 of last year while carrying a weapon, threatened Nana and her mother, injured them, and demanded money.
The incident reportedly escalated into a physical struggle as Nana and her mother attempted to subdue the intruder. Both women sustained injuries during the confrontation, with Nana said to have suffered injuries requiring 33 days of treatment and her mother injuries requiring 31 days of treatment.
During the sentencing hearing, the court said that the seriousness of Kim’s crime warranted a punishment that reflected the gravity of his actions. The ruling emphasized the danger posed by an armed intrusion into a private home and the harm inflicted on the victims during the attack.
Court Recognizes Self-Defense in Violent Break-In
A major point in the case was Kim’s counterclaim against Nana. After suffering a laceration to his jaw during the struggle, he accused Nana of attempted murder and special injury. However, police determined that Nana’s actions fell under legitimate self-defense and cleared her of wrongdoing.
Throughout the trial, Kim’s side admitted to entering the residence but denied parts of the charges, including claims that he had not brought a weapon and that Nana had attacked him while armed. Nana later appeared in court as a witness and testified that she tried to take the weapon away from Kim first during the struggle. She also said she hoped he would stop and reflect on his actions.
The court ultimately accepted that Nana’s actions, including picking up a weapon from the floor and injuring Kim during the confrontation, were justified as self-defense. The decision reinforced the view that Nana and her mother were responding to an immediate and violent threat inside their own home.
The first-trial ruling brings a significant legal conclusion to a frightening home invasion case involving Nana and her mother. While Kim received a seven-year sentence for the violent break-in, the court also made clear that the victims’ efforts to protect themselves were legally recognized as self-defense.
